African-American/Argentinian soul singer, guitarist, and songwriter, Raul Midón,
is known for his silky, soulful tenor and dazzling, percussive guitar
style – a syncopated, flamenco and jazz-infused approach in which bass,
harmony, and melodic lines take life with jaw-dropping virtuosity. As a
child he played drums before graduating in guitar and jazz studies and
then working as a backing singer for Latin-pop artists Shakira, Ricky
Martin and Alejandro Sanz. Since launching his solo career in 2002 he
has been featured in documentaries about Herbie Hancock (Possibilities), producer Arif Mardin (All My Friends Are Here) and Bill Withers (Still Bill);
released three albums and collaborated with Jason Mraz, Marcus Miller
and Roberta Flack. An astonishing, mesmerising, genre-defying artist.
Unmissable.
